Care Instructions

  • Basket of the Hills (Kenyan Baskets)

Spot clean as needed. Do not use harsh chemicals, as the colors may run.

If basket gets out of shape, you can stuff it with towels or a large pot to reshape it.

Keep the basket dry to avoid deterioration of the basket material.

Keep out of direct sunlight to avoid color fading.

If you decide to use it as a planter, be sure to line it with thick plastic to keep the basket dry. Alternatively, you can place your plants in a smaller plastic pot on a saucer and use this basket as a dressing.

    Bolga Baskets

These baskets are condensed for shipping and need to be re-shaped upon arrival, we do this to significantly reduce shipping costs.

If the basket gets out of shape, submerge in warm water and re-shape as needed. Trim off any stray grass with scissors.

    Senegalese Storage Baskets

    Cactus Silk Pillow Covers

Dry Clean Only. Please keep away from any liquids, as these products are naturally dyed and getting them wet will most likely result in discoloration. If you do get a mark on your Cactus Silk pillow cover, we suggest you take it to be dry cleaned.

    Stuffing your pillow cover

Unzip the pillow cover using the zipper located on the side seam & open it out to its full shape.

Start by first filling the sides at the top pillow cover to ensure that all the corners are fully stuffed. This will prevent dimples and bumps in the finished cover.

Continue stuffing evenly - add a layer of stuffing and push it down firmly (again, ensuring that the sides and seams are fully filled out) before moving on to add another layer. Continue until the pillow cover is full or is as plump as you need

    African Mud Cloth Tapestry

Use cold water and chemical free soap. Test swatch to make sure your detergent isn’t too harsh for the mud cloth. Submerge your mud cloth into the water and gently stir it for about 5 minutes. Remove your mud cloth and very gently ring out any excess water.

  • Wood Wick Candles

When lighting your candle for the first time, allow the candle to burn until the top of the wax is completely melted. This prevents tunneling and extends the life of your candle.

Do not burn candle for more than 3-4 hours at a time.

Always trim wick to ¼ inch before lighting.

Keep candle away from drafts to increase scent throw and prevent uneven burning.

    Brass Candle Holders

Clean with a microfiber cloth and water. If you live in an area with hard water, use a simple solution of vinegar and water.

For a deeper clean, you may use a mild dish soap and warm water rinse. Use a soft, damp cloth to wipe away the soapy water, debris, dust, and dirt.

You may also use store-bought brass cleaner to polish your brass.

  • Beeswax Food Wraps

Beeswax food wraps hold their shape when they are cool, creating a naturally breathable seal keeping your food safe and fresh. To clean, simply wash by hand using cold water and dish soap. Lay flat to dry.

    Bottle Brush

After use, allow the brushes to dry by either hanging up or standing on the bristles, allowing the water to flow away from moisture-sensitive areas.

  • Round Senufo Stool, Tonga Stool

Woods will expand and shrink with changes in temperature and humidity. Take care not to place your furniture next to radiators or anywhere subject to excessive changes in temperature or moisture.

To clean, wipe with a damp cloth before buffing with a dry cloth. In the event of more stubborn marks, a solution of mild detergent should be used on the cloth. Silicone based polishes should not be used on the wood as they will build up and leave a sticky residue on the surface.

    Moroccan Floor Cushion

We recommend cleaning your floor cushion by hanging outdoors where possible, shaking out any collected dust or dirt. Spot treatment is safest with water only, never apply commercial products. Our floor cushions are composed of wool fibers, washing in a standard washing machine will cause damage. We recommend professional cleaning if needed.

    Stuffing your Cushion or Ottoman

Unzip the cushion or ottoman using the zipper located on the under side (ottoman) and side seam (cushion) & open it out to its full shape.

Start by first filling the sides at the top of your cushion or ottoman to ensure that all the corners are fully stuffed. This will prevent dimples and bumps in the finished cover.

Continue stuffing evenly - add a layer of stuffing and push it down firmly (again, ensuring that the sides and seams are fully filled out) before moving on to add another layer. Continue until the cushion or ottoman is full or is as plump as you need.

    Moroccan Rugs

We recommend having your rugs professionally cleaned regularly, typically once a year. Spot clean small stains as needed (do not use standard carpet cleaning solutions), but make sure to test the area first to make sure the colors don’t run. Vacuuming the rug to remove dirt and excess fuzz is fine, but do not use a vacuum with a rotating bristle brush.

Alternatively, you can shake your rug outside to remove dust particles

Do not use standard carpet cleaning solutions, as the chemicals are too harsh and will damage the 100% wool fibers. Do not put in a standard washer/dryer, as that will shrink the rug and damage it beyond repair.
